Happening November 6 through 9 in Round Top, Texas (population 90), the festival is in its second year, but you would think it’s been happening for, well, forever. It’s cool and quaint and packed with star power!

When asked what she learned from year one, Schanen said, “I learned how much work it actually took to put on a film festival.” In year two, she explained, they started earlier, added even more programing and really amped it up.

Here’s what happened on the first amped up day of RTFF!

The event began with a red carpet surrounded by music, merch, drinks and Texas cowboy chic style. Think sophisticated and refined yet down home and salt of the earth. Everybody is somebody and there are no strangers – just friends you’ve yet to meet.

The opening film was Adult Children, starring Texas native Thomas Sadoski. Most recognized for this roles on The Newsroom and Life in Pieces ( and his marriage to Amanda Seyfried), Sadoski was raised in College Station where his parents still reside. Not only did they attend the event in support of their son, but they arrived on a bus filled with all of their friends. It was truly one of the sweetest things to witness.

Spill the ATX asked Sadoski about how it felt to have so much love and support from family and friends. “It feels awesome,” he said. “It’s a weird thing to be standing on a red carpet and look around and see people that I grew up with… making fun of me and pulling faces at me the way we used to do when we were like 8-years-old on the swim team together.”

He concluded by stating, “It makes everything a lot more special and I couldn’t be happier to be here.”

He’s not alone. Every attendee at the fest is happy to be there! Following the screening, attendees gathered for an opening night party that had everyone kicking up their heels. There was neon, there was a mechanical bull, line dancing, brisket, Frito pie and, of course, lots of libations.

The festival continues through Sunday with features, shorts, tributes and even a Texas style Studio 54 event. Stay tuned for more highlights and follow along with Spill the ATX’s adventures on Instagram and TikTok.
