Razzie Awards 2025: Cate Blanchett scores rare nomination during awards season

Cate Blanchett is no stranger to nominations during awards season with a SAG Award and Golden Globe nomination this year alone for her work in the TV series Disclaimer.

But now, the Australian actress is up for an unusual honour – the Golden Raspberry Awards, or Razzies, which celebrate what judges view as Hollywood’s duds of the year.

Blanchett’s been nominated in the Worst Actress category for her role in the movie adaptation of popular video game Borderlands, in which she starred alongside Kevin Hart, who also scored a Worst Actor nomination.

Borderlands, Madame Web, Megalopolis and Reagan each took out six nominations but the big “winner” of this year’s nominations was Joker: Folie à Deux.

The Joker sequel scored seven nods in total – including Worst Actor and Actress for stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, respectively.

Legendary actor – and Angelina Jolie’s dad – Jon Voight scored a nomination in the Worst Supporting Actor category for multiple movies last year: Megalopolis, Reagan, Shadow Land and Strangers.

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is also among the nominees for his biopic Unfrosted but it’s not known if he’ll see the funny side and attend the informal ceremony in LA in March.

The Razzies, now in its 45th year, will keep with tradition and announce the “winners” the day before the Academy Awards ceremony on March 2.

In the past actresses such as Sandra Bullock and Halle Berry have been there to accept the “honour” in person.

Bullock took home the 2010 award for the film All About Steve before winning an Oscar the very next night for her role in The Blind Side.

Blanchett will be up against Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Dakota Johnson and Bryce Dallas Howard, though it’s not known if any of the actresses will attend.
