The tension between Dorit Kemsley and Erika Jayne continues to simmer on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (RHOBH) after the January 21 episode, where Erika publicly defended Kyle Richards regarding her controversial texts to Dorit’s husband, Paul “PK” Kemsley. Dorit, however, didn’t hold back on her feelings about Erika’s stance, accusing her of being too quick to believe Kyle’s side of the story.

In the episode, Erika Jayne goes to bat for Kyle, insisting that the texts between Kyle and PK were innocent, even though Dorit Kemsley feels otherwise. “That hurt. I’m your friend too,” Dorit says in a candid moment during the RHOBH After Show. “And you saying she did nothing wrong, when my feelings are she did something wrong — and by the way, Erika would not be OK with it.” Dorit believes Erika’s defense of Kyle is based on a deeper emotional connection and the desire to avoid conflict. She added, “Erika chose to believe what Kyle was saying because she feels like it’s too hard for her not to.”
But why does Dorit feel so strongly? Dorit explained that if the roles were reversed, Erika would likely feel just as hurt and upset. “I’d think [differently] of Kyle,” she revealed. Dorit feels Erika’s blind defense of Kyle doesn’t sit right, especially because she doesn’t fully buy into Kyle’s explanation that the text was not about her.

In the episode, Erika tries to defuse the situation by engaging in a spa conversation with Dorit. However, it becomes clear that Dorit is not backing down from her belief that Kyle’s texts were inappropriate. Erika, trying to navigate the difficult waters, says, “I said, ‘Well, I need proof.’ Dorit said, ‘Well, I don’t need proof.’ I said, ‘Well, I do.’ I’m not going to take a position on that, because even if it was that way, I don’t want to believe that.”
Ultimately, Erika confesses that she didn’t want to pick sides in this heated drama. “I don’t want to choose anybody over anybody, and I’m sure it’s going to look like I’m the biggest f–king flip-flopper ever. I hope not,” she admits in the After Show. But despite her best efforts to stay neutral, Erika acknowledges that the situation was becoming too much for her to handle. “I knew it was a terrible position. At some point I was going to get it wrong, and I was going to have to step backward. Which is what I did.”
Erika further explains her approach to the conflict, explaining that her goal was simply to be kind and supportive to both of her friends, who are dealing with tough personal struggles. “Both of these women are important to me, both of these women are going through very tough times in their life and I’m going through a tough time in my life. I want to give everybody the grace and the love and support that I possibly can,” she says. “I don’t want anybody to hurt more than they have to.”
Despite her efforts to stay diplomatic, Erika admits she was put in an incredibly difficult position and had to step back. “I said, ‘You know what? I quit. Now the two of you need to handle it.’”
In the end, Erika’s main priority is to take care of herself and remain true to her own values. “All I tried to do was show up and be kind, be supportive, and try to be as objective as I can with the information that I have,” she says, admitting that she doesn’t have all the details. “It’s important to remember, you have to take into consideration what’s happening to these women at home and [in] their marriages.”
