ALESHA DIXON REFUSES TO LET HER CHILDREN HAVE CELL PHONES

Alesha Dixon is taking a bold stance when it comes to her children’s access to technology, insisting they will not have cell phones—at least not yet. The multi-hyphenate personality opens up about her decision to keep her kids off screens, detailing why she refuses to let them have cell phones.

“As long as we can avoid our daughters having phones, we’re going try our hardest,” the 46-year-old said in a cover interview with Women’s Health. “She [Azura] can be begging me for a mobile phone, and I feel no way to be like, “nope” [just] because I’ve got one.”

Dixon went on in her interview to encourage parents who share the same sentiment to “be strong” in their decision. “You’ve got to be strong with it,” the mother-of-two stated.

“My thing is this, if she doesn’t need a phone then why is she having one? If I can delay her being in that world, I’m going to work super hard to make sure that it doesn’t happen. I don’t care if her friends have got phones. In our house, we don’t want that.”

Dixon told the outlet that although it is important in her household to not provide their children with cell phones; however, she does understand that for some parents, giving their kids a phone is a safety issue.

“For those parents that have children that take the bus [to and from school] then I get it, it’s a different story, but we’re very fortunate that our children go to a school where they have to be dropped off as they can’t walk to school. So, we’re like, ‘well, you don’t need a phone because we’re with you all the time and we always know where you are. If you’re not at school, you’re with us so you’re fine.’”

The Britain’s Got Talent judge has two daughters: Azura, 11, and Anaya, five, with whom she shares with her 44-year-old dancer husband Azuka Ononye.
