Australian Open 2025: Alex de Minaur’s sweet comment about fiancée Katie Boulter after his round one win

Alex de Minaur won his first round Australian Open game but wrapped up his post-match interview on Rod Laver Arena for the sake of his fiancée, British player Katie Boulter.

Boulter was playing at the same time, so when the Aussie pro was asked about their recent engagement he joked about staying in the good books.

“2024 was a special year and it ended in the best possible way, I’m very happy that happened,” the 25-year-old told Nine’s John Millman on-court about their engagement.

“In saying that she’s playing right now so I better get out there and watch.”

He gestured as if he was about to turn and run off, getting a laugh from the crowd, and Millman swiftly wrapped up proceedings.

After his win over Botic van de Zandschulp, de Minaur was seen in the cool down area watching the start of Boulter’s third set before hot-footing it across to the nearby Kia Arena to watch the end of her match from the player’s box a short time later.

After cheering on his future wife to a win over Rebecca Marino, de Minaur pointed to his temple as Boulter looked up at the player’s box.

Boulter, 28, later said she suspected her future hubby won his match by the roar of the crowd from the other arena.

“I’m guessing he won,” she said to a huge cheer from the crowd.

“I kind of figured if he lost, he might not be sat there, so I went with the win, and I heard a massive roar, so I figured that was an Aussie win. So yeah, I’m so happy to see him through.”

The British player said the Aussie crowds cheering her on had helped her.

“From the moment I landed here in Australia, in Sydney as well, I felt the love, and I can’t tell you how much it means to me, and yeah, just thank you so much,” she said.

The couple announced their engagement in a social media post in December, showcasing Boulter’s very large sparkler in a loved-up photo.

“We’ve been keeping a small secret,” they told fans.

Earlier in the chat with de Minaur, Millman joked that he’d nearly been taken out by Boulter’s massive rock. The tennis ace just blushed.

Boulter and de Minaur met on the tennis circuit in 2020 and began dating, before making their relationship public in March 2021, to mark their first anniversary.
