BMW Recalls 145,000 Vehicles Over Fire Risk
BMW owners, especially those rolling in the X5, X6, X7, or select 2020 340i, 840i, and 740Li models, should pay attention. Over 145,000 vehicles are being recalled due to a fire hazard linked to faulty engine starters.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue lies in starters that may not work properly, causing them to overheat.
“If the starter overheats, locally, during these starting situations, the engine acoustic protection material can be ignited if contaminated,” NHTSA stated. “In rare cases, this could lead to a thermal event while driving or shortly after parking, if the vehicle had a starting event shortly before being parked.”
BMW plans to fix the issue by replacing the starter with a redesigned version. Owners will be notified by mail with instructions to visit their local dealership for the repair.
This latest recall comes on the heels of another recent action involving nearly 200,000 BMWs tied to engine corrosion.
BMW drivers, it’s time to check your VINs.
