CAM NEWTON IS STILL DEALING WITH ‘RESENTMENT’ AFTER HAVING ‘CHILD OUTSIDE MY RELATIONSHIP’
On a recent episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Cam Newton admits that he is still dealing with “resentment” after having a “child outside my relationship“.
During the episode, all of the recruits received video messages from their family members, except Newton. Instead, he received a message from a member of his production company.
“My dark side in my life was like I was in a long-term relationship and I had a child outside my relationship,” the 35-year-old shared. “We had just moved into a house and everything was kind of perfect from the outside in, you know?”
Newton states, “And my relationship with my oldest daughter has suffered. All she kept asking was, ‘Yo, why?’ “
In a confessional moment, Newton says that he feels like he’s still “making mistakes.”
“Family, they give me purpose, but I made my mistakes. Still making mistakes.” The former NFL player continued saying that, “I’m still dealing with that resentment. So if I can heal that, then that’s the start. My daughter. We have our disconnects, but I just want my children to know that their dad cares, like I care.”
Outside of the confessional, Newton directs his conversation to the other recruits telling them, that having a child outside of his relationship comes with a great deal of “vulnerableness”.
“I know I hurt somebody, but I didn’t want what I created to be a secret either. But all the while, too, my relationship with my oldest daughter suffered, and is suffering from that. Daddy cheated on my mommy. I think it’s important for me to be accountable.”
Newton is father to eight children. He shares four children with his ex-girlfriend, Kia Proctor. Their kids are sons Chosen Sebastian, Camidas Swain, and Cashmere Saint, and daughter Sovereign-Dior Cambella. Newton also helps raise Proctor’s older daughter, Shakira. He also has two kids with photographer LaReina Shaw: son Caesar, plus Shaw’s older son, Jaden, from a previous relationship.
Even after eight children, Newton still wants more. In a recent interview with People Magazine, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback Newton admitted that he was open to adding more children to his family.
“Did I tell you I want more?” he told the outlet.
When asked how many more children he wanted, Newton responded, “I don’t know, wherever much that God gives me. But jokingly, and not jokingly, they really give me my purpose and there’s so many different things that I look at to say, they’re my refuge. They’re my peace. They’re my encouragement.”
