FBI Releases Person of Interest in Charlie Kirk Shooting at Utah Valley University

The only person taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been released, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. In a public statement, Patel confirmed the individual was questioned and let go as authorities continue investigating the deadly incident that unfolded at Utah Valley University.

“The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement. Our investigation continues, and we will continue to release information in the interest of transparency,” said Patel.

Kirk, 31, was gunned down on campus while hosting a political event as part of his “American Comeback Tour.” Witnesses say the shots rang out while Kirk was engaging with students at his signature “Prove Me Wrong” table. The attack appeared targeted and occurred in broad daylight.

Kirk’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through political circles. Known for his strong conservative views and close alliance with Donald Trump, Kirk had become a leading voice for right-wing youth movements. He co-founded Turning Point USA and was widely recognized for his influence in mobilizing young Republican voters.

Utah officials, including Governor Spencer Cox, labeled the act a “political assassination” and promised a thorough investigation. Still, the release of the only known person of interest has left many questioning the direction and urgency of the probe.
