Former U.S. Attorney and Biden Nominee Jessica Aber Found Dead at 43
Jessica Aber, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, tragically passed away on Saturday at the age of 43.
The Alexandria Police Department (APD) responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Beverley Drive, where Aber’s body was discovered. The cause and circumstances of her death are under investigation by the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Aber began her distinguished career in 2009 as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia. Between 2015 and 2016, she served as counsel to the assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division. Later, she became deputy chief of the criminal division at the same office. In 2021, Aber was nominated by President Biden to serve as U.S. attorney, earning unanimous Senate confirmation. However, she stepped down when Donald Trump took office in January 2021.
Attorney General Pam Bondi expressed condolences, calling Aber’s passing “deeply tragic,” while Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares honored her legacy. On the social media platform Twitter, Miyares wrote, “I am saddened to learn of the passing of Jessica Aber, whose career of public service included US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and whose work with Ceasefire Virginia saved more lives than we may ever realize.”
