Freakier Friday: Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis at Australian premiere at Bondi Junction Westfield


The much-anticipated Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, premiered in Australia last night with the stars descending on Sydney’s Bondi Junction shopping centre for the occasion.

Co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan thrilled fans as they arrived in unison at the shopping centre to celebrate the Australian release of the sequel, more than 20 years after the original was released in 2003.

The onscreen mother-daughter duo posed for photos together against the signature green and purple media wall.

Lohan, who has been praised for her looks during the Freakier Friday press tour, which have at times taken inspiration from her other iconic role The Parent Trap, opted for a simple yet chic look.

She wore a floor-length sheer black dress with a leotard-style bodice underneath, the simple but elegant look was finished with a gold clutch and simple jewellery.

Speaking to 9News at last night’s event, Lohan revealed that becoming a mum has changed her perspective on things.

“When you become a mum, you become a different kind of empathetic in a whole new way,” she said.

Meanwhile, Curtis was a vision in red – a colour she has opted for on several occasions during the new film’s press tour.

This time she wore the statement colour with a long-sleeve gown with draped details.

Of the new sequel, she told 9News, it “means everything” to her.

“I’ve waited 22 years, Lindsay and I have been friends for a long time,” she added.

The movie’s co-leads weren’t the only big name celebrities in the mix at last night’s premiere event – the last of the film’s extensive press tour.

Supermodel and TV host Tyra Banks also made an appearance on the red carpet.

The star, who recently relocated to Australia and opened the first bricks and mortar store for her ice cream brand SMiZE & DREAM in Sydney’s Darling Harbour, opted for a chocolate brown look.

She wore a satin-look brown gown with a structured corset detail. She completed the look with a pair of matching pumps.

Alongside the American stars, several big Aussie names made their way to the star-studded event.

Australian journalist, author and TV presenter Jess Rowe attended the event with her youngest daughter Giselle Overton, 16, who she shares with 9News presenter Peter Overton.

The mother and daughter duo smiled for the camera at the event, Rowe in a polka dot dress complete with a red belt and Overton wore a simple black dress.

Aussie sisters and influencer, Tammy and Emilee Hembrow were also among the mix at the Australian premiere.

They both appeared to draw inspiration from the early noughties style of the original film.

Emilee opted for a casual suit look complete with a cropped top and a loose tie while Tammy wore a pink slip dress with a pair of knee high boots and wore nostalgic butterfly clips in her hair.

Influencer and TV star Bella Varelis appeared thrilled to celebrate the release of the new film.

She lit up the red (well purple) carpet at the Bondi event, smiling for cameras as she prepared to watch the sequel.

She wore a noughties-inspired top complete with feathered details.

Disney Australia CEO Kylie Watson-Wheeler, who has no doubt had plenty of insight into the upcoming film, was also in attendance.

She wore a noughties-inspired coat dress which she paired with some transparent heels.

Australian-based drag performer, Hollywould Star, who competed in the third, season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under was also among the guests at the Sydney event.

She wore a statement black gown for the event complete with metallic-look buttons.

Model Imogen Anthony, who previously dated radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands, was also in the mix.

She wore a layered, lilac dress for the occasion which she paired with a feathered shawl.

Guests were treated to an early preview of the film at the event. The film is set to hit Aussie cinemas on Thursday, August 7.
