G Herbo Says He’s Never Gotten a Major Label Check in His Career
G Herbo isn’t your average rapper riding label advances. In a candid sit-down with the Baller Alert Show alongside hosts BT and Ferrari Simmons, the Chicago MC revealed that despite being over a decade into his music career, he’s never cashed a significant check from a record label.
“I still haven’t even seen that check,” he said. “I ain’t never signed for no double-digit, eight-figure deal or nothing like that.” Herbo explained that he’s been independent for most of his career, building his empire through touring, streaming royalties, and ownership of his music.
Since his teenage years, Herbo has been signed to a production company, not directly to a major label, which meant most of his moves were self-driven. He’s been eating off residuals, stacking checks from performances, and owning 50 percent or more of his masters.
But all that may be about to change.
With his current contract wrapping up, Herbo says he’s officially a free agent. This moment, he says, is like his “contract season,” and he’s eyeing a major deal, but on his terms.
“I built so much with my brand… even with getting a big check, I’m still gonna own 70 percent of my music,” he said, noting that any label would be smart to cut that kind of deal now, thanks to the leverage he’s built.
Still, he admits he’s never experienced that major-label push that comes with real investment from a company that has “skin in the game.”
Now he wants more: global superstardom, a full-scale rollout, and the kind of industry muscle that could take him beyond the streets and into global markets.
G Herbo says he’s only seen a million-dollar check three or four times throughout his career, and none from a traditional label deal. Everything else? Straight hustle.
After 10+ years of grinding, he’s ready for the next chapter—and this time, he wants to do it with the full power of the industry behind him.
