Guest Dies by Suicide at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

A somber moment hit Walt Disney World last week when 28-year-old Matthew Cohn died by suicide at the Contemporary Resort, according to the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office. His death was ruled a suicide caused by multiple traumatic injuries.

Cohn’s body was discovered on Thursday near Bay Lake Tower, prompting a massive emergency response. Police quickly taped off areas around the pool while Disney staff scrambled to keep the scene out of view. Guests said they were told not to look out their windows, with employees using carts, scaffolding, and even towels to block the view.

“At this time, we can confirm that the manner of death was ruled suicide; cause of death: multiple traumatic injuries,” a spokesperson told The Post.

One TikTok user shared, “We woke up to a VERY large law enforcement [presence] outside our balcony this morning at Disney’s Bay Lake Tower. We were told it was a ‘medical emergency.’ Prayers to the family & those involved!”

Another guest described seeing CPR being performed.

“They knocked on our door as well and told us not to look out the window…Sad situation all around,” she posted.

This marks the third death at Disney World in October. Earlier this month, 31-year-old Summer Equitz also died by suicide at the same hotel. Just days later, a man in his 60s reportedly died from a medical episode at the nearby Fort Wilderness Resort.
