Kelly Clarkson makes rare comment about co-parenting with ex Brandon Blackstock on Not Gonna Lie podcast with Kylie Kelce
It’s been almost five years since Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, and she’s now made a rare comment about the duo’s co-parenting arrangement.
Clarkson was awarded primary custody of the couple’s two children, daughter River Rose, 10, and son Remington ‘Remy’ Alexander, eight, with court papers at the time revealing that the former couple were having “a difficult time co-parenting due to issues of trust between them”.
Now, on the latest episode of the podcast Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce, Clarkson has commented about the unfair double standards placed on her as a working mum.

Kelce introduced the topic, explaining to Clarkson that her kids understand when her husband, retired NFL star Jason Kelce, would have to travel for work, but aren’t able to afford her that same grace.
“Isn’t that funny though, how different it is?” Clarkson began.
“Because even from a young age, like we didn’t teach them [that]. He’s allowed to be somewhere but you’re not, that is real interesting.”

The Breakaway singer went on to explain to Kelce that there’s “a lot I keep in” sarcastically adding, “because co-parenting is fun”.
“It’s like, ‘Oh, he couldn’t come because this,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool.’ Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day?” she said.

Clarkson also opened up about the guilt she feels when she isn’t able to show up for her kids because of work, saying that it makes her feel “like [an] asshole”.
The singer shared that her kids’ school will sometimes have events such as performances on “in the middle of the day,” sometimes with too short of notice for her to be able to get work off.

“And then [my daughter] is like, ‘Why weren’t you there? This person’s mummy was there’,” she told Kelce.
“And I’m like, congratulations to her because she made different decisions that led to her being able to be there on a Thursday at 10AM.
“She’ll be like, ‘well you know, her mum was there?’ And then you have to say, ‘Because she got a better mom and you got me’,” Clarkson laughed.
