Secretary Blinken’s Meeting with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi
The below is attributable to Spokesperson Matthew Miller:
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa in Tokyo on January 7. Secretary Blinken thanked Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi for his work on Japan’s global leadership during his time as foreign minister and in his current role. They discussed the deepening military cooperation between the DPRK and Russia and the PRC’s dangerous and destabilizing behavior in the South China Sea. Both sides reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. The Secretary reaffirmed the United States’ ironclad commitment to the defense of Japan.
