Tropical Cyclone Alfred: ‘Bummed’ Green Day forced to cancel Queensland concert
Queensland Green Day fans have been left disappointed after the band were forced to cancel their Gold Coast concert due to adverse weather conditions.
The American Idiot singers were due to perform at Cbus Super Stadium on Wednesday, after playing Melbourne and Sydney on March 1 and 3, respectively.
“Hey Australia, unfortunately due to circumstances out of our control, tomorrow’s Gold Coast show has been cancelled,” Green Day said in a statement posed to social media.

“With Cyclone Alfred bringing some seriously nasty weather, it’s just not possible to go ahead safely.
“We know this is a huge disappointment, and we’re just as bummed as you are. Stay safe out there!”
The Saviors Tour shows were arranged to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the American Idiot album (2004) and 30th anniversary of Dookie (1994).
It was the final stop in the pop-punk rockers’ three-city Australian tour, with the band heading off to India next.

Promoters Live Nation told fans due to this international schedule of concerts, it wouldn’t be possible to reschedule the show and all tickets would automatically be refunded.
“We understand the immense disappointment surrounding the cancellation of tomorrow’s Green Day show on the Gold Coast due to Cyclone Alfred,” Live Nation said in a statement.
“This decision was made in close consultation with local authorities and with Green Day, prioritising the safety of all involved.

Due to Green Day’s international touring schedule it will not be possible to reschedule the Gold Coast show to a later date. All ticket holders will receive a full refund from Ticketmaster. Our thoughts are with all impacted by Cyclone Alfred.”
Tropical Cyclone Alfred is currently a category 2 storm, moving west towards the south-east Queensland coast.
It’s expected to cross late on Thursday or early Friday. A warning zone extends from Double Island Point in Queensland to Grafton in New South Wales and includes Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay and Ballina.
Ahead of the cyclone making landfall, the Bureau of Meteorology is warning of hazardous wind gusts around the Gold Coast area.
