Trump May Deploy National Guard to Washington, D.C. to Combat Crime

Donald Trump is using the alleged assault on former DOGE staffer Edward “Big Balls” Coristine as his rallying cry to possibly federalize Washington, D.C.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote:

“On Monday, a Press Conference will be held at the White House, which will, essentially, stop violent crime in Washington, D.C. It has become one of the most dangerous cities anywhere in the World. It will soon be one of the safest!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT.”

The referent: the alleged carjacking and beating of 19‑year‑old Coristine early Sunday near Logan Circle. He jumped in to protect his significant other from a potential assault—and ended up bloodied, concussed, and iPhone 16 stolen. Two teens were arrested.

Trump shared Coristine’s photo on social media, calling him a “beautiful, handsome guy,” and cited this attack as further proof that D.C.’s crime problem is spiraling out of control.

On August 6th, Trump took the rhetoric further—suggesting the National Guard could be deployed “very quickly” to regain order in the capital streets.

Here’s what a National Guard takeover can mean for a city:
•    Troops patrolling neighborhoods, potentially supplementing or replacing local police
•    Security checkpoints and restricted zones
•    Curfews and limited public gatherings if necessary
•    Federal oversight that bypasses city government
•    A visible government show of force to deter violent crime

All eyes are now on Monday’s press conference. Will D.C. soon be under military-heavy federal watch?
