Oscars Speeches: Most memorable Oscars acceptance speeches of all time including Angelina Jolie, Matthew McConaughey, Gwyneth Paltrow, and more | In Pictures
Adrien Brody celebrated his Best Actor win for The Pianist by pashing presenter Halle Berry on stage. Brody casually made his way to the podium before planting one on the actress to her surprise.
“I bet they didn’t tell you that [kiss] was in the gift bag,” he joked as he began his acceptance speech, which went on for three minutes.
“I haven’t really written a speech because every time I wrote a speech for the past one of these things I didn’t win.”
Not exactly a moment that would fly more than twenty years later!
“I was like, ‘What the f— is happening right now?’ That is what was going through my mind,” Berry later told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in 2017.
“And because I was there the year before and I know the feeling of being out of your body, I just f—ing went with it. But I was like, ‘What the f— is going on right now?'”
Brody himself addressed the kiss earlier this month, telling Variety: “We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing… And nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”
