Dave Hughes back in hospital to drain lung fluid weeks after ‘near death’ experience

Dave Hughes has landed back in hospital to have fluid drained from his lungs just weeks after his “near death” experience.

The comedian, 54, shared a video from his hospital bed wearing a hospital gown as he revealed he was seeking treatment for lung complications.

“Apparently fluid on your lungs is not a good thing so we’re getting rid of it,” he told the camera.

Hughes then lifted up his collection bag to reveal some of the fluid that had already been removed during his treatment.

“The experts are draining a coupla litres of lung fluid into a goon bag for me,” Hughes joked in the caption.

“Then it’s party time again.”

”This looks more dramatic than it is,” he added in a text caption across the video.

His trip to the hospital comes a few weeks after Hughes experienced what he called a “near death” experience.

The comedian sustained five broken ribs and a punctured lung during the charity AFL Legends Match for Prostate Cancer early last month and was treated in the ICU ward at Cabrini Hospital.

“I nearly died but I’m going to say it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. So, it was a real moment,” he declared as he spoke about the experience on The KIIS Network’s Will & Woody show

“On the night, I looked like I was at death’s door but some people thought I was bunging it on, and so I didn’t go to hospital on the night.”

The next morning, his constant groaning led to his wife Lisa taking him to a Melbourne hospital at 5am, where they did an X-ray and figured out what his condition was.

Soon after his hospital stint, Hughes shared a post to social media revealing that he was out of hospital and “all good” and expressed that he “really did love playing the Legends Game” even if it landed him in hospital.

“Yes I’ve had 3 set shots in legend’s games and kicked 3 goals, the latest while carrying five broken ribs and a punctured lung. Thanks for asking,” he joked in the post.

Hughes has not clarified the circumstances of his latest hospital visit and it’s not clear if it’s related to the injuries from the AFL match.
