Jimmy Barnes health: Cold Chisel Rocker to undergo third major surgery in just over a year
Jimmy Barnes is headed back to hospital once again after a gruelling years-long health battle.
But on this occasion, he shares, “this is actually good news”.

“My incredible doctors have just cleared me to go back in next week to have my hip replaced with a permanent joint. Hooray!” he cheered.
“I’m obviously not looking forward to more surgery, but believe it or not, it’s actually good news.
“It might surprise you all to know that I’m not a good patient, so apologies in advance to my darling Jane (who) is going to be back in nursing mode for the next few weeks.

Eight words uttered on live radio almost ended his career
“But the temporary hip that I had in there for the last few months did its job and it got me through the amazing Cold Chisel ‘Big Five-0’ tour.
“I’d like to send out a big thank you to the very talented physios who strapped me up like I was in the grand final every night. That got me through the shows.”
Barnes insists he wont be away from the stage for very long.
“I’ve got another big year coming up, this one, and the new hip will have me stomping around the stage before you can say, 1,2,3,4.”
Five months ago, the Cold Chisel rocker officially left hospital after having a medical tube removed from his arm, meaning that he can finally move freely.
The singer posted an elated photo with his arms up, showing the point on his arm where the tube was inserted and later removed.

“I’ve had what they call a PICC line in my arm delivering antibiotics from a portable bottle 24/7 for 6 weeks. It’s meant that I could leave hospital and continue most of my recovery at home. It’s been restricting and liberating at the same time,” he shared.
“This part of my recovery is now over and with the help of Drs, nurses, physiotherapists, family, friends, you guys and my Jane everything is on track. Rehearsing with @coldchiselofficial this week has topped things off. I can even get back behind the wheel. Aah! FREEDOM.”
His health battle began in November 2023 when he announced he was being treated for a bacterial infection, shortly after having to undergo open heart surgery in December.
In August 2024 he felt a hip “twinge” which required yet another unexpected surgery.
