Katy Perry is officially back with new music – and she’s holding nothing back.

The pop superstar has just dropped her first single since her high-profile split from fiancée Orlando Bloom in July of this year.

The track, titled Bandaids, seems to give fans a more detailed look into the real reason behind the pair’s shock separation.

In the video released in conjunction with the new single, the Firework singer is shown washing dishes, before dropping what appears to be an engagement ring down the sink.

The opening line, “Hand to God I promise I tried, there’s no stone left unturned. It’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t – you were there but you weren’t” appears to allude to emotional distance driving the couple apart.

The music video depicts Perry enduring a series of painful mishaps – most self-inflicted – seemingly hinting at the repeated hurt she felt while fighting for the relationship.

But that’s not to say that the song is devoid of tenderness.

“On the bright side, we had good times. Never faked our pictures,” she sings, reflecting on the highs and lows of their nine-year romance.

“We were perfect ’til we weren’t, now we’ve got too many splinters.”

The singer, who shares five-year-old daughter Daisy Dove with Bloom, makes it clear that she harbours no resentment.

“If I had to do it all over again, I would still do it all over again,” she sings.

“The love that we made was worth it in the end.”

The pair are reportedly “prioritising stability and consistency for Daisy” as the family adapts to their new normal.

Bloom revealed on Today back in September that he and his ex-fiancée have a healthy co-parenting dynamic.

Earlier this week, Perry teased this new era of music to fans via Instagram with a striking close-up photo.

Bandaids marks Perry’s first release since her 2024 album 143.

Reflecting on the album on its 1-year anniversary in September, she referred to her records as “snapshots” of her life.

“History is important,” she wrote on Instagram. “We celebrate the wins and reflect on the losses. All of it is valuable.”

Perry and Bloom first met in 2016, with Bloom popping the question three years later.

Though the pair appeared inseparable for years, news broke earlier this year that they had quietly ended their engagement.

Since then, Perry has made headlines alongside rumoured new beau Justin Trudeau, who she was spotted kissing aboard his yacht in mid-October.

The singer made a cheeky quip, hinting at a romance with Trudeau during her concert in London.

“London, England, you’re like this on a Monday night after a whole day at work and a whole day at school?”

“No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time… but not anymore,” she said, as per The Sun.
