Real Housewives star Lydia McLaughlin’s brother Geoffrey Shyam Stirling fatally shot by police
The Real Housewives of Orange County star Lydia McLaughlin is in mourning after her brother was fatally shot by police after a traffic stop earlier this week.
Newport Beach Police told Page Six that their officers had pulled over McLaughlin’s brother, Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, on Thursday 9:15pm local time as he rode his motorcycle.
Stirling was allegedly stopped for a “traffic violation” and then became “uncooperative and assaulted the officer,” according to law enforcement.

“During the ensuing violent altercation, Stirling managed to remove the department-issued taser from the officer’s duty belt and attempted to deploy it multiple times against the officer,” public information officer told the outlet.
“At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
Stirling was then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was aged 45.
McLaughlin and her family released a statement via TMZ the day after, telling them: “My family and I are devastated by the loss of my brother.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn.”
The 44-year-old shared a tribute to her brother on Instagram, posting a photo of him with a caption.
“My family has experienced an unimaginable loss. My brother, Geoff, was tragically taken and our hearts are shattered,” she wrote.

“I can’t believe we’re facing this pain just six months after losing my best friend and mother. I know they’re both with Jesus now, and He’s walking with me through this darkness. One step at a time. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for us.”
The loss comes six months after McLaughlin and her family lost her mother, Judy Stirling, who also made appearances on the reality show alongside her daughter.
McLaughlin featured on the show for two seasons.
She is married to Doug McLaughlin with whom she has three sons.
