Victoria Monét Opens Up About Team Member Who Suggested Abortion
Just months before welcoming her daughter, Victoria Monét faced unexpected resistance from someone on her own team. During a candid conversation on the July 23rd episode of “IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson,” the Grammy-winning artist opened up about a hurtful moment that occurred during her pregnancy.

Monét, who had just released her “Jaguar” EP in 2020, was preparing for motherhood when a team member sat her down for a PowerPoint presentation. The message was clear, even if not directly stated: motherhood might derail her career.
“I had a person on my team, though the intentions were good, really, really hurt my feelings because they made a PowerPoint presentation to me about how difficult it will be for me,” Monét shared. She recalled the examples shown, like high child care costs and lifestyle changes, ultimately capped with a blunt question: “What’s the rush?”
Monét said the conversation felt like “an encouragement to get an abortion,” which left her stunned and emotional. “So that was really, really hurtful. And I walked out of that meeting.”
She added, “I walked out of the meeting with that same fight that I had when I left home, like, ‘I’m gonna do this. It’s my body and I’m gonna make it work even if it’s hard. I’m not scared of hard things, I can do hard things.’”
Today, her daughter Hazel is thriving and even has her own children’s book, “Everywhere You Are,” co-authored by her mom.
